Earthquake Updates


Overview:

An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 struck northern Afghanistan and Pakistan on 26th October 2015. The epicenter was reported to be located in Badakhshan district, close to the Hindu Kush mountain range, 67 kilometers from the Northern city of Chitral. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department about 115 aftershocks of magnitude 2.2 -- 5.3 were observed. The earthquakes affected a wide range of districts in the Northern areas. The districts hit the worst include Bajaur Agency, Buner, Chitral, Lower Dir, Malakand, Shangla and Upper Dir. Out of these Chitral and Shangla have been severely affected. Click to view the map

Due to the Badakhshan earthquake many damages were caused. According to figures released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) figures 280 people lost their lives and 1,982 were reported injured. The figure for houses damaged and destroyed currently stands at 103,268. Read More
