Shelter Research

After the 2010-2012 floods, there was a need for analyzing the shelters constructed in the flood affected areas of Pakistan. For this purpose IOM being the lead shelter working group in Pakistan took the initiative to carry out a research project to better inform the design strategies that can be used to enhance the resilience of flood affected populations. It is not only limited to Pakistan, but can also be in other similar context and geographic locations. The shelter construction guide and Research report act as navigation tool’s for organizations implementing shelter programs or conducting research related to shelter. By working together with ARUP and NED University including the consultation for the inputs and feedbacks from shelter experts from IOM Headquarter, DFID, global technical advisory group and Pakistan shelter working group, scientific rigor has been brought into the study to ensure all elements of construction have been tested and verified.
